Ningbo is an important port in China second in significance only to the great port of Shanghai. Since 2006 there has been a great expansion of the port out onto the island of Zhoushan so that the capability of Ningbo to dock, unload and process large sea-going, deep-water vessels can compete favorably with the nearby ports, including Shanghai.
